Ship's Log

0506

Welcome to the monthly Ship's Log of the USS Star League!

Each month, one of our departments will be responsible for sharing valuable information, away missions, and other adventures with the crew.  Our Ship's Counselor, Cmdr. Jana Sandarg, has volunteered to share her latest away mission.  Enjoy!

Counselor Sails High in Seattle

In May, the ship’s chief counselor visited Seattle, Washington, on a reconnaissance mission for the captain. First, she had to reconnoiter possible landing sites for the U. S. S. Star League, so she scouted from atop the Space Needle, about 900 feet above Terran edifices. The Space Needle resembles a flying saucer on top of a long needle, perched in space. Indeed, from the observatory, one can see afar, beyond the Puget Sound, nearly to Canada.  At the foot of the needle is the Science Fiction Museum (SFM), which houses memorabilia of the Star Trek series, including the original captain’s chair of James T. Kirk, some classic uniforms, and a few original “typed” manuscripts donated by Nichelle Nichols. Also on display are several phasers, a bat’leth and the head gear worn by Captain Picard when he played the Borg, “Locutus.” The museum boasts displays and histories of the major science fiction shows and movies, and is appropriately housed in a structured designed by the famous Terran, Frank Gehry, who is known for the unusual, “futuristic” Guggenheim museum in Bilbao, Spain. The Seattle SFM shares the building with “The Music Experience,” which details the history of popular music.  Below are several images of the SFM: one from the ground level, one from the top of the Space Needle, and a close-up of the SFM symbol.  Counselor Sandarg was flying high after this away mission, and shared her stories and images at the June Star League briefing.
